Best Time For Indrahar Pass Trek

Indrahar Pass is usually accessible during the months of May-October, but if the snowfall is delayed (as in 2017) then it can be done in November too. Sometimes people are able to climb the pass in April as well. Here we provide you the best time for Indrahar Pass trek below with a description on what you can expect in each of the months. Click on ‘Indrahar Pass Trek‘ to know everything about the trek in detail.

Indrahar Pass Trek in April:

The trek might be possible in April and is not always accessible. You might need snow gear to climb it in April.

Indrahar Pass Trek in May:

The trek is usually doable in the month of May. Good amount of snow is still present but it’s lesser than that present in the previous months. The last water source around Lahesh cave could be frozen, so you might have to buy mineral water bottles from shacks below (of course at a premium). There can be steep sections after Lahesh cave with a hard snow that tend to get slippery. Use of ice axe can be considered to approach such sections. A guide is a must for those not familiar with this area. Weather is unpredictable and when it gets foggy then  The view at the top can be foggy and unclear.

Indrahar Pass Trek in June:

This is the best time to trek if one wants to cover Indrahar Pass in summers. Amount of snow slightly decreases and the Pass should be fairly accessible around mid-June.

Indrahar Pass Trek in July and August (monsoon):

Avoid Indrahar Pass trek during these months! Kangra valley receives the highest rainfall in Himachal, this side of Dhauladhar receives the rain early and the rocky terrain with boulders gets wet and slippery. The route gets dangerous and heavy thundershowers and clouds hardly leave windows for a clear view from the top. The entire valley is blooming with beautiful flowers, but trekking in monsoon on this route is just not worth the risk.

Indrahar Pass Trek in September:

You can still see flowers blooming in early September. Chances of occasional rainfall are still there during the early half of the month. This might be accompanied by a little snowfall on the top of the pass for a short window. Overall September is a very good time for this trek.

Indrahar Pass Trek in October:

The weather gets slightly colder and dry and it is safe to trek on this month. If one does it during the end of the month then it can become colder along with some snowfall.

If you are planning to spend a night at Lahesh cave then ensure proper insulation on the ground. Make sure you have a wind blocker and adequate winter clothes since the area is quite exposed to harsh winds from multiple sides.

Indrahar Pass Trek in November:

It’s not always possible to cover this trek in November, but sometimes snowfall is delayed which makes the trek doable. Weather would be very dry and cold. Late night temperature hits a negative even at Snowline, so it’s recommended to not stay at Lahesh cave before your climb unless you have proper winter clothes. Camping around Snowline or Laka Got is recommended and trek can be attempted early morning.

The pass is likely to remain inaccessible during the months of December-March/April
The best time for Indrahar Pass trek is thus either immediately before monsoon in June or post-monsoon months of September and October.
